Drinking Driver Program (DDP)
The Drinking Driver Program is part of New York State's effort to
reduce the personal and property losses caused by drivers under the
influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
In July of 2004 the Prevention Team began to offer the NYS DMV approved
Drinking Driver Program in Essex County. For the first time, Essex County
motorists could take advantage of this educational program without having
to travel to a neighboring county.
What is the Drinking Driver Program
(DDP)?
The DDP helps the participants examine the arrest experience and the
reason for their arrest. It also helps them learn to make appropriate
driving decisions for the future. During the DDP introductory session,
participants are asked to consider the reasons and goals of the program,
and its requirements for completion. The participants discuss the social,
medical, legal, and driver safety consequences of alcohol and/or other
drug use while operating a vehicle. The DDP participants must attend all
seven (7) weekly classroom sessions for a total of 16 hours. Upon
completion of DDP program, participants may apply for their license.
How can I sign up for the TEAM's
DDP class?
Sign-up for the DDP is accomplished through either:
County DMV office (based upon eligibility as
determined through a town or county court consistent with the parameters
established by New York State)
Courts with a conviction
- Please call the Prevention TEAM if you have questions, or your local
DMV office. |
